This exclusive beach hotel is situated on a private peninsula in Crete, right by the sandy beach and surrounded by beautiful Botanical Gardens. The complex lies within minutes of the picturesque fishing village of Agia Pelagia. There are also many shopping venues as well as countless bars, nightclubs and restaurants in the vicinity. Links to the public transport network lie within easy walking distance. Heraklion, the capital of Crete, is a 20-minute drive from the hotel and the airport is situated approximately 25 km from the hotel (roughly a 20-minute drive). Alternatively, Chania airport is 100 km away and it is 150 km to Sitia airport.
This upscale resort hotel is located on a private peninsula, 20 minutes from the City and the International Airport of Heraklion and next to the traditional fishing village of Aghia Pelaghia. Out Of The Blue Resort & Spa is ideally, centrally situated on the island of Crete, providing easy and quick access to all Ancient Sites for excursions. The property is outstretched over this unique peninsula resembling a Cretan Village and is surrounded by a Botanical Park of 167.000 sq. m. / 1.796.920 sq. ft. with beautiful Aegean views, extensive gardens, green pathways, ponds, cascades, a small river, 2 beaches. The property features 460 rooms, maisonettes, suites and villas, 4 restaurants, 5 bars, two beaches and a unique Minoan Amusement Club for our little friends.
Each of the comfortable, tasteful rooms comes with an en suite bathroom, a king-size bed, a cosy seating area, a hairdryer, a direct dial telephone, a hire safe, satellite/ cable TV, a radio and a minibar/ fridge. Internet access is also available as well as centrally regulated air conditioning and heating. Each room also features either a balcony or terrace with a panoramic view of the sea and the garden area.

Far from 5-star standard – a massive disappointment
We have just spent 14 days at Out of the Blue Resort, and unfortunately, we have to conclude that the hotel’s 5 stars only exist on paper. If you have previously stayed at actual 5-star resorts (such as the Rixos chain), you will be deeply disappointed by the standard here. The hotel delivers a product that feels more like a mediocre 3-star charter hotel.
The main buffet is dominated by dull, mass-production catering. However, the most shocking part is how drinks are served at the various pools. Being served white wine and cocktails in flimsy paper cups at a 5-star hotel is downright embarrassing and completely ruins any sense of luxury.
Although the hotel's pools open at 10:00 AM, the surrounding bars do not open until 11:00 AM. It is incredibly frustrating to have to wait a full hour just to get a cup of coffee when you've settled in at the pool area. This is completely out of touch with 5-star service.
The hotel advertises several a la carte restaurants, which is a major selling point when booking. In reality, it is virtually impossible to get a table as everything is constantly claimed to be "fully booked," leaving you stuck with the uninspiring buffet.
Our stay lasted two weeks, and housekeeping failed on every single parameter. Sheets were not changed in the room (at least not weekly even though they were dirty), and they constantly forgot to restock toilet paper and the correct number of towels. Fresh water was never put in the fridge, forcing us to reuse and refill the same bottles ourselves. Worst of all, used glasses in the room were never replaced—we didn't get clean glasses until the day before our departure!
The toilets around the pool and the H2O bar are not cleaned properly. As a guest, you have to personally point out the lack of toilet paper multiple times a day before anything is done. It is simply too sloppy.
The beds are extremely hard, and the hotel generally shows signs of wear and tear and a lack of maintenance.
To be fair, the hotel's location on the peninsula is incredibly beautiful, and the pool areas are nice. However, beautiful surroundings cannot compensate for a management style that cuts corners so aggressively at the expense of the guest experience and basic service.
Look elsewhere if you expect genuine luxury, good food, and value for money. Out of the Blue does not live up to its price tag or its 5-star rating.

Lefteris for a massage
Lefteris is a fabulous masseuse. I have never had a massage before and he asked me if I was ok all the way through and he put me at ease throughout. I was a little nervous at the start and he very soon made me relax and his English is brilliant. Some people like to sit and relax and that’s ok but I talk a lot so we chatted and he was happy to tell me all about Crete and Greece and I told him about England. I had a nasty injury to my left elbow and not only did he ask me about it politely, he took extra care around the injury. Lefteris is an absolute asset to the hotel and such a well spoken and pleasant young man. His employers and his parents should be very proud of him. If you are to visit the spa for massages , request for him to see you 100%. Absolutely brilliant service and please leave him a tip as he works very hard and he is a great young man!
Lush gardens, excellent facilities and family friendly
I stayed at the resort with my son. The hotel staff were attentive and the resort estate is clean with lush gardens. There is a choice of pools with 3 waterslides. The buffet restaurant was excellent, better in many ways to the al a carte options in terms of choice. The drink options are satisfactory but local beverage options are not comparable to well known quality brands.
The room we had was basic for a 5 star hotel( small shower, a cupboard you could not open fully because of a bedside table, sparse furniture and a disproportionately small tv for the room which lacked play options) but comfortable none the less with effective air con. The house keeping was excellent and there is a very good shop at the resort which is reasonably priced.
There is evening entertainment and spa facilities available. It is also possible to arrange sea based activities from the beach and exercusions in resort although some are more expensive than booking through local agencies.
The hotel has an amazing private beach with clear water and soft pebble sand. It is child friendly. The hotel complex is set in really beautiful surroundings and the staff are excellent. Had It not been for the basic room I would have given it 5 stars.
