- Atlantica Amalthia Beach Hotel

Located directly on the sandy beach of Agia Marina, this modern hotel is 9 km from Chania. The water is shallow for approximately 30 m, making it an ideal place for families. One can swim to the protected islet of Thodorou where traditional Cretan goats live. The hotel offers 62 rooms, currency exchange, WIFI, outdoor pool with children's section, playground, medical assistance, bicycle rental, car hire and free on-site parking. Wheelchair accessible.
Due to the surrounding area and the number of steps around the hotel, it may not be suitable for those with mobility difficulties.
Just returned from a 2 week stay and have very mixed feelings about this hotel,so i will explain my views in various sections. The hotel is split into 2 parts with a bridge connecting the old section from the new,we stayed in the old section so my views relate to that sie of the hotel. LOCATION the hotel is located dirctly on the beach with lovely views of the sea.It is a 25 minute bus ride from the hotel to Chania city the cost is 2.2 euros per person 1 way and the buses are very frequent.Outside the hotel there are a number of good quality restaurants priced relatively according to what you eat. There is a distinct lack of bars to enjoy a drink in and imported spirits are expensive. ACCOMODATION we booked a superior room with sea and pool views which we can recommend. The only issue was the shower which is certainly not a power shower more like light rain.Toiletries are provided but not of a high quality. Beach towels are provided and are changed every other day. FOOD breakfast cannot be faulted there is an excellent range of good quality products. We only ate once in the restaurant at lunch time and the food was again of a high quality with plenty of choice..a large beer being priced at 6 euro. STAFF the majority of the staff are very professional but aloof. One member of staff Andrianna proved to be very professional, friendly, hard working and a massive asset to the hotel.A pity the rest of the staff were not like her. POOL the area around the bottom pool is very popular and the hotel opperate a policy of removing towels from unoccupied beds up to 830am which is to be appluaded however after this time its a farce and people leave towels on the sunbeds(which are very comfortable) and dont return for up to 4 hours leaving other holidays makers unable to get a sunbed. There are plenty of sunbeds on the beach but a charge of 15 euro (per day)for 2 longers,umbrella,2 bottles of water in an ice bucket and small pieces of fruit is an alternative choice. ENTERTAINMENT is provided 3 times a week and in our opinion is very poor it would be better not to have any rather than the artists they employ OVERALL this in our opinion is not a 4 star hotel but 3 stars. Will we reurn again NO
With a choice of three pools and the beach literally at the end of the hotel this hotel was perfect for us. The staff are fantastic, the hotel spotless and the food is lovely. Breakfast is varied with a good selection of cooked, continental and lots in between.
Yes you have to pay extra for the beach lounger but you do anywhere along the beach. Currently €15 for two beds and a sun shade. You get water and fruit included plus attentive staff waiting to take your order. We stayed in the new part across the road but don’t let this put you off. There’s a bridge to walk over but the road isn’t busy anyway. I think the new part is the nicer part of the hotel. Air con was a God send and the fridge in the room helped with keeping drinks etc cold.
We like to explore different areas of Greece but wouldn’t hesitate to go back.
We have just returned from a 10 day stay at the Atlantica Amalthia Beach and would highly recommend.
We had a room in the newer part of the hotel. It was clean, modern and a great size. Our balcony looked out onto the pool area which was ideal.
We never struggled to get a sunbed by the pool, which were really comfy and all had umbrellas available. The pool area closest to our room also had a bar which we used every day. The staff there were amazing - so friendly and helpful.
The breakfast area is on the smaller side but still had a good variety on offer (fresh fruit, bacon, eggs etc, fresh pancakes, cereal). Staff were always keeping food topped up and we never had to queue up even when it was a bit busier.
We also used the beach bar/restaurant at lunch time which had a really good and varied menu.
Overall, we would definitely return and recommend to others.
Honest review
Good points - staff are excellent , so friendly and helpful , our room was on the other side of the road , very modern with seaview, was cleaned every day had a little fridge and good lighting , spacious with modern bathroom
Swimming pools on both sides of the road , sadly never enough beds and although there is a rule no towels to be put on bed before 8.30am most mornings by that time all beds taken
The beach is directly at back of hotel with lots of beds but charging 15 euro for two beds for guests I think is not very good , beach clean and lots of little restaurants along the road and beach
Things that could be improved are room towels for shower are far too small !!
Charging for beach beds is not good
Hotel drinks are very expensive compared to other bars next door
The posiden restaurant next door is thoroughly recommended
All in all great stay
We stayed here from the middle of June for 2 weeks, in the newer part across the road. The room was really comfortable cleaned well and towels changed regularly. Our cleaner was very friendly and hard working. Breakfasts were good just a queue for omelletes and the coffe machine. The top pool was very nice an clean. All the staff were friendly and helpful. Enjoyable stay, wpyld not hesitate to return
