King Evelthon Beach Hotel and Resort

Very good and intensive massage!!!

The outside of the King Evelthon looks lovely, with attractive swimming pools and a waterpark. Unfortunately, the experience inside the hotel was a completely different story. We were extremely disappointed with our stay and would not return.

For a hotel advertised as five-star, the standard of food, cleanliness, customer service and overall experience fell well below expectation

Food and drinks

The food was awful. Snacks were available between 3:30 pm and 5:30 pm but were basically limited to the children's section. There were also late-night snacks between 10:30 pm and midnight, but these consisted of ham and cheese sandwiches. The choice was extremely limited, and the overall standard of food was very poor.

You are also forbidden from ordering or bringing food into the hotel. There seem to be more rules here than in a prison camp!

As someone who follows a plant-based diet, I was particularly disappointed by the lack of suitable food. There was virtually nothing available for vegans apart from salads. I had informed reception of my dietary requirements, yet when I asked a waiter about vegan food, he questioned whether I had told the hotel, stormed off and returned to tell me that it would take 15 minutes to prepare.

The so-called vegan curry consisted of hard potatoes and onion in curry sauce. Hardly an acceptable meal, particularly at a hotel claiming to offer a five-star experience.

We only ate at the buffet twice during our week: on our first night and again on the Saturday, when a thunderstorm meant we couldn't get a taxi to eat elsewhere. That alone should tell you how unimpressed we were with the food.

The drinks service was equally disappointing. When we asked for a second drink on the Saturday evening, the waiter responded with disbelief, saying, “Another one?”

We found staff extremely reluctant to serve alcoholic drinks. We had approximately four alcoholic drinks in total throughout the entire week. It was incredibly uncomfortable to feel as though we were doing something wrong by asking for drinks included in the price of our holiday.

Rooms and cleanliness

Our first room was an accessible room intended for guests with disabilities. There were no shelves or suitable storage for toiletries, meaning everything had to be left on the floor.

Housekeeping was very poor. The rooms were not properly cleaned; the beds were essentially just made.

After asking for four consecutive days to be moved, we were eventually given another room. Unfortunately, this room smelled strongly of smoke, was filthy and had ants. We reported these problems, but nothing was done. The beds were not made for two days, and we were not given clean towels.

The lighting in the rooms was also inadequate. I had to sit outside to do my makeup, and there were no lights on the balcony either.

The carpets throughout the hotel were disgusting, and the general condition of the interior made the entire place feel dirty and poorly maintained. This was certainly not the standard of cleanliness we expected from a hotel of this supposed calibre.

Staff and customer service

Unfortunately, the attitude of the staff made an already disappointing holiday even worse. We found them rude and unhelpful, with the general impression that serving guests was an inconvenience rather than part of their job.

When we raised concerns, there was little evidence of any genuine interest in resolving them. Problems that should have been dealt with promptly were simply left unresolved.

Good customer service can make a huge difference to a holiday, but in our experience, this hotel fell well short.

Children's areas

The equipment in the children's areas was another disappointment. The machines took our money but did not work, and the money was not returned. The pool table also took money, but there were no balls available to play with!

These might seem like small issues individually, but they all add to the feeling that the facilities are not being properly maintained.

Waterpark and swimming pools

The pools and waterpark are probably the hotel's biggest positives. There is a large pool away from the slides, with sunbeds around it, which was generally quieter. We preferred this area to the main pool, where the music was thumping.

However, even here, standards were disappointing. The sunbeds around both the hotel and waterpark pools were absolutely filthy, with stained surfaces and spiderwebs underneath them. After the rain, they were soaking wet because the cushions are left outside and are not covered.

The waterpark provides sandwiches as part of the all-inclusive package, but every option contained meat or dairy. I asked about a vegan alternative and was told they did not cater for vegans. Even the food available to purchase contained meat or dairy.

For a hotel offering an all-inclusive package, it is disappointing that such basic dietary requirements appear to have been overlooked completely.

The lady greeting guests at the entrance to the waterpark could also benefit from a few lessons in politeness. First impressions matter, and unfortunately, this was another example of the poor customer service we experienced.

Late checkout

Our flight home was not until 11 pm, despite the standard checkout time being 11 am, so I enquired about a late checkout.

I was initially told to return the evening before departure to find out whether one would be available. When I did so, I was then told to telephone reception at 7 am the following morning for an answer.

The hotel charges €60 for late checkout.

Having to chase an answer after already following the instructions given was frustrating, particularly when all we wanted was a straightforward response so we could plan our final day..

The pools and waterpark are probably the best part of this hotel, albeit they are not the cleanliest, but unfortunately, that is where the positives largely end for us.

Poor food, virtually non-existent vegan options, dirty rooms, ants, a smell of smoke, inadequate housekeeping, filthy sunbeds, poorly maintained children's facilities and rude, unhelpful staff made this a very disappointing holiday.

A holiday should be a chance to relax and enjoy yourself, not spend your time dealing with problems that should never have arisen in the first place.

In our experience, the inside of King Evelthon did not live up to expectations, and the service certainly did not feel like that of a five-star hotel.

I also struggle to understand the hotel's TripAdvisor rating, which, in my opinion, does not reflect the overall experience we had. There appear to be numerous positive posts about the massages, which are driving up the hotels score - but a hotel should be judged on the whole experience, including its food, rooms, cleanliness, facilities and customer service.

This hotel is nowhere near five-star standard in our experience. We would not return and would not recommend it.

Im here with my friends, we had a lot of fun here, we enjoyed a lot in water park, we had very nice food in the restaurant, very nice beach view,room is amazing. Staff is so friendly. Thanks to raman for assistant. I recommend this hotel.
