Anastasia Beach Hotel

Saska is very kind, the entire service is perfect, and the staff are smiling. We highly recommend a visit.

I would like to share my experience regarding the accommodation and dining at the Anastasia Beach Hotel in Southern Cyprus. The dining at the hotel exceeded all our expectations; the dishes were beautifully presented, perfectly seasoned, and offered great variety. A major highlight was having a Slovak sous-chef, Karol, as well as the hotel manager, Jozef. Every day, we enjoyed a wide selection ranging from traditional dishes and international cuisine to excellent fresh salads—all prepared using high-quality ingredients. The restaurant boasts a wonderful atmosphere and an efficient, prompt staff. Special praise goes to Mr. Pambos and Despoina. From the very first day, they welcomed us with smiles, and their positive energy brightened every morning and evening. They were incredibly kind and attentive; they were always happy to offer advice or provide explanations, and nothing was ever too much trouble for them. Thanks to their wonderful, personal, yet highly professional approach, we felt like VIP guests. We are taking home not only unique experiences and a fantastic culinary journey, but also memories that will last a lifetime. We will certainly return with great enthusiasm. Thank you!

But there is HUGE BUT. However, a major disappointment was the lady at the reception STELA, who—with her broken English—was often unable to offer advice or provide necessary information; she was reluctant to help and always seemed to have an issue with something. very rude, unprofessional and she deserve to be receptionist definitely not head of department. A person in a front-line role should not act with such unwillingness and lack of professionalism, and she does not deserve to hold such a position.

Great Location and Pools, but an Extremely Disappointing Hotel – Never Again!

We stayed at Anastasia Apartments in Protaras, Cyprus, during October 2026 as a family of five, with three children aged 16, 12 and 12, on an all-inclusive holiday.

I’ll start by saying that we absolutely love Cyprus and would happily return. Unfortunately, we cannot say the same about this hotel.

Arrival and First Impressions

Our arrival was initially positive. The main hotel lobby looked clean, tidy and well presented.

There was some confusion during check-in because two members of our party shared the same surname, but this was eventually resolved.

We were then directed to a separate building at the rear of the hotel complex, and that’s where our disappointment began.

Compared with the main building, our apartment block looked extremely dated, poorly maintained and noticeably less clean. Apart from a reception area and pool table, there was very little there. There was also a bar that appeared to be permanently closed, meaning we had to walk back to the main building whenever we wanted drinks.

Accommodation and Cleanliness

The apartment itself was extremely disappointing.

The décor was dated, and the air conditioning didn’t work throughout our stay. Thankfully, we managed to sleep by leaving the balcony doors open, but it was still another facility that wasn’t functioning properly.

The main bedroom’s bed was reasonably comfortable. However, the other sleeping arrangements consisted of a pull-out sofa with a mattress topper and a portable foldaway bed. Neither was particularly comfortable.

Only one pillow was provided per bed. In fairness, we didn’t request extras, so we cannot comment on whether more would have been supplied.

The biggest concern was the bathroom cleanliness.

Underneath the sink, there was a substance splattered across the wall that genuinely looked like dried vomit. Obviously, we cannot confirm what it was, but it was extremely unpleasant.

The air-conditioning vents also appeared to have a substantial build-up of dust and what looked like mould.

My wife ended up cleaning what she could herself.

On the positive side, the shower had good water pressure and reliable hot water. The towels and bedding were also clean, and there were sufficient towels for our family. Some drinks had been left in the fridge on arrival, which was a nice touch.

We didn’t report the initial cleanliness or air-conditioning problems to reception, so we cannot comment on how they would have handled those complaints.

Housekeeping staff did visit during our stay, but unfortunately, their visits coincided with us getting changed, so we asked them not to clean. Therefore, our criticism relates primarily to the condition of the apartment when we arrived.

General Maintenance – Shocking

Unfortunately, the problems extended well beyond our apartment.

We witnessed dirty laundry left in corridors, a foldaway bed abandoned in a hallway and a spilt drink that remained uncleaned for an extended period.

Paint was peeling, maintenance doors were broken and left open, and a panel inside one of the lifts was hanging loose.

We also noticed dead birds left on a balcony near reception, while our bedroom window had failed double glazing, leaving the glass permanently cloudy.

The overall impression was of a building that had been neglected and desperately needed attention.

Importantly, most of these observations relate to the rear apartment building. We visited the accommodation of friends staying in the main hotel building, and although theirs wasn’t spotless, it appeared noticeably better maintained.

We cannot fully judge accommodation we didn’t stay in, but the difference was obvious.

A Distressing Lift Incident

One particularly unpleasant experience occurred when myself and another member of our party became trapped in a lift.

We were stuck for approximately 10–15 minutes before help arrived. The lift became hot quite quickly, and the situation was particularly distressing because the person with me suffers from claustrophobia.

When maintenance workers eventually arrived, they obtained a lift key from reception and opened the doors straight away.

However, we were shocked by their behaviour towards the female receptionist.

They began shouting at her, and she appeared visibly upset. We even heard her say, “There is no need to shout at me.”

We genuinely felt sorry for her.

Despite the incident, nobody apologised or checked whether we were alright afterwards.

Mechanical breakdowns can happen anywhere, but the way situations are handled makes a difference.

Food – A Major Disappointment

The food was one of our biggest frustrations.

Although the food generally tasted alright, there was very little variety, with many of the same dishes appearing repeatedly.

More importantly, the vast majority of food that should have been hot was lukewarm at best.

Our three children regularly struggled to find meals they enjoyed, and there was no dedicated children’s food section.

We ended up spending additional money eating elsewhere, despite having already paid for an all-inclusive holiday.

That was incredibly frustrating and made us question what we had actually paid for.

Drinks and Bar Service

The all-inclusive drinks selection was reasonably good, with most drinks included.

However, some extras, such as slushies and certain ice creams, came with additional charges.

Unfortunately, bar service was inconsistent. Communication was sometimes difficult, and on occasions, staff would disappear from the serving area for 15–20 minutes.

Swimming Pools – Excellent!

Credit where it’s due: the swimming pools and sunbeds were excellent.

We genuinely couldn’t fault them, and they were among the best aspects of our stay.

Entertainment

We didn’t notice any organised daytime entertainment at our hotel.

Evening entertainment was apparently available at a sister hotel across the road, but we never attended, so we cannot judge its quality.

Instead, we spent some evenings at the nearby Station Pub, paying for our drinks and entertainment despite being on an all-inclusive holiday.

Wi-Fi – Terrible

We were initially told we needed to pay for Wi-Fi, although we subsequently discovered we could connect without paying.

Unfortunately, the connection was extremely poor throughout the complex.

Speeds were around 1 Mbps, and the connection frequently dropped out.

For a family with teenagers, it was incredibly frustrating.

Location – Very Good

The hotel is in a decent location, a little way from the main Protaras strip and next to a beach.

The nearby beach isn’t particularly sandy, but the beautiful Fig Tree Bay is within reach.

The journey from Larnaca Airport is fairly long, although we knew this beforehand and wouldn’t criticise the hotel for that.

Staff

Overall, we’d describe the staff as average. Not the best, but certainly not the worst.

There were communication difficulties and some disappointing service experiences, but we wouldn’t suggest every member of staff was bad.

Value for Money – Extremely Poor

This is ultimately where our disappointment lies.

We paid for an all-inclusive family holiday expecting reasonable cleanliness, comfortable accommodation, properly maintained facilities and enjoyable meals.

Instead, we found ourselves dealing with numerous problems and spending additional money on food and drinks elsewhere.

We genuinely felt ripped off by the standard of accommodation and overall experience compared with what we had paid.

We don’t expect five-star luxury, but basic cleanliness, maintenance and comfort shouldn’t be too much to ask.

Final Verdict

Would we return to Cyprus? Absolutely!

Would we return to Anastasia Apartments? Absolutely not.

The location and swimming pools are genuinely good, but unfortunately, they weren’t enough to make up for everything else.

Our experience of the rear apartment building was extremely disappointing, and we couldn’t recommend it based on our stay.
