The staff is absolutely wonderful. Francine was so kind and helpful on arrival and another wonderful front desk receptionist called a taxi for us at 4am when our Uber did not arrive. The food choices were plentiful but nothing special. The grounds and rooms could use a refresh. There are some renovated rooms on the top floor with heaviness though. The staff more than make up for the challenges.
We had a wonderful stay here. Our room was at the back of the hotel on the first floor so we had a lovely view of the gardens. It was very quiet and peaceful. The room was clean and well equipped for our needs. The reception staff are very friendly and helpful.
The food is plentiful and a bit bland. However, we always found something to eat and didn’t go hungry. The dining room is well staffed and the staff work hard to keep the food topped up and the tables cleared and cleaned quickly.
The pool area has a stunning backdrop of the sea and mountains and there were always plenty of sun beds and umbrellas available. There is a pool bar.
All the public areas were clean and the public toilets were always spotless. Well done to the cleaners!
The bus station is a short walk away and the Number 6 will take you to the Pile Gate of the Old Town. The bus can get very crowded particularly on the way back. However, they are punctual, clean and a ticket is only €2.50.
We would love to return. Our stay was real value for money.
Absolute solid 4 star. Booked a superior room through Tui and had a perfectly nice room on 4th floor overlooking dining area. Yes i would've liked kettle in room. Free safe, decent shower, bed fine though pillows bit soft.
All inclusive food was passable. Always something as a main course you could take. Decent vegetable choice but always the same potato dish. Hot range at breakfast a bit limited personally did not fancy any of the sausages. But plenty bread, rolls, cereal etc. Omlettes were nice. Snack bar in afternoon quite substantial, only time you could get chips. No themed nights or highlight of local foods as far as i could see.
All inclusive drink. Beer very good. Pretty sure same as served in local bars (expensive ). Wine was perfectly drinkable. Normal spirits. Cocktails pre prepared but seemed popular. Bar area busy in evening as bit chilly to sit outside. Dont know why they couldn't provide bit of entertainment couple of nights a week ?
Pool area excellent. Plenty sunbeds. Pool bit chilly in late September but managed couple of swims. Pool bar area excellent for cool drink. Lovely setting.
Some shops/restaurants/bars outside front of hotel to left. Provided change of scenery. Asian restuarant very good value. Beer in area around 6/7 euros. Bus stop at top of road, frequent service into old town. Lots of lovely walks around sea front. Leave pool area and take path to right, lovely coastal walk to Ferry Port area with plenty shops etc Sister Valamar hotel, literally stone throw away had Customer Experience desk, handy if you want to book a trip or two.
Would absolutely return to hotel. Mid September good time to visit Dubrovnik as weather still lovely but crowds have thinned so more pleasant experience.
Location is quite and excelent, just a few minutes from old town with taxi. The rooms are very comfortable and clean, and noise level is very low. Just love it.
The staff is very helpful and friendly. The food is great and varied. There’s something for everyone.
For the kids there is Maro wolrd which is perfect.
This is my second time in Valamar hotels and it wont be the last one for sure.
We stayed here for a week in mid October. The staff were friendly, helpful and always willing to help out where they could..yes, there were times a smile or greeting wouldn’t have gone amiss but everyone is entitled to the odd bad day..
The food was always fresh but it was very limited. If you’ve got kids that enjoy burgers, chicken nuggets etc then this place is not for you..not that this is a criticism because it helps broaden your pallet but it’s something to remember..loads of salads and always a pasta, pizza option..
Rooms were ok, usual scuff marks, flaking paint, dirty stains on the curtains, sofa bed..it’s coming towards the end of the season so I guess it’s to be expected somewhat but defo need work during winter..numerous people have mentioned this before and I have to agree, the pillows are awful..you need about 3 piled high to get a half decent sleep..
Worth mentioning that the hotel is at the bottom of a big hill..not ideal if you have issues with mobility but the taxis etc do come down to pick you up..be aware that the service bus stop is at the top of the hill..
My biggest criticism of this hotel, and it something people have mentioned many times before but clearly nothing has been done..the temperature of the outdoor pool is freezing cold, so cold it’s unbearable..there were times there were easily over 100 people by the pool but not one in the water..we paid a lot of money for our weeks stay and not being able to use the pool took away a big part of our family experience / time together..
I don’t know what the issue is that the hotel can’t turn the temperature up ( probably money ) but it’s a huge turn off for me..I did ask reception if they could turn the temperature up and they said they would pass it on to whoever but nothing changed..a massive let down in my opinion.,yes you could go to the nearby beach but that’s not the point..you pay for the hotel and their facilities..
There is the option to use a nearby hotels heated pool facilities but that’s €40 each, per day and I simply wasn’t prepared to do that..
This hotel has a lot going for it, great location and great views over the bay, islands etc but the pool is a major let down and the main reason I wouldn’t stay here again..
