- Fond Doux Eco Resort

Discover this amazing resort, a 19th century eco-friendly colonial plantation nestled in the heart of Soufriere, St Lucia. The resort is situated amidst a 250 year-old working plantation, featuring an assortment of fifteen uniquely crafted cottages. Conveniently located just minutes away from the island's main attractions: The Sulphur Springs - the Caribbean's only “drive-in volcano”, The Pitons and the best diving sites on island all within the prestigious UNESCO World Heritage Site. Much of the land on the estate is utilized to grow fruits, flowers and vegetables – all of which are used in the restaurants. All of the cottages have been built and designed with minimum impact in mind. No machinery was used when constructing these stunning residences – all excavation was performed with loads of elbow grease and shovels only.
Due to the surrounding area and the number of steps around the hotel, it may not be suitable for those with mobility difficulties.
First view colonial architecture-a bit old but totally charming. We are in the Tangerine room it is beautiful. A hammock on the patio, a choir of singing critters serenading outside and the Lush plants trees flowers and greenery was dreamlike . Bathroom was alright- not lush but fine. They provided hand soap and shower gel shampoo and conditioner in the shower. Seemed to be generic— if you like luxurious BR amenities bring your own. Towels were well sized… I am a towel freak in hotels. Our cottage had completely screened in windows which alleviated my mosquito concerns. The bedroom is totally air conditioned with mini split and a ceiling fan as well. No TV in the room really no need! Included breakfast was fine. We had dinner at the hotel and there was a good selection of choices. Food was fine! We had a GREAT driver who works for the hotel named GARIT (sp?) safe engaging and charming! Took the Coco tour two parts.. first history and process and then participating in making a chocolate bar … needs to be in freezer to set in the form. essentially, the people who make the chocolate bar get the previous guest’s chocolate to make sure it is cold and set, and so forth and so on. This is an ECO lodge in the rain forest not an inclusive luxuryloaded Fancy stressful show off place. It was earthy and really amazing with necessary creature comforts. Enjoy! And Thank you to the Lodge for a lovely stay
Whitney as our tour guide was the greatest start to our day , he carried an amazing charisma , charming personality, vibrant aura , he definitely knew what he was doing and we could have seen he loves what he does not just because he has to do it , the passion and energy said it alll we loved him🫂 . Our waitress Elizabeth, she was amazing , caring, patient and compassionate I’d describe her . May life always be kind to her sweet soul , thank you for the exceptional hospitality 🩷
The experience was amazing. The waitress Elizabeth was very friendly and helpful she was a darling!!! The tour guide Whitney was very friendly and patient he did a great job I am happy with my experience as a first time customer.
This former plantation is situated in a beautiful spot in the rain forest. There are historical buildings on site, and the cottages are quaint (from the outside). The breakfast is lovely and the dining area is also. For the most part, the staff are helpful. I Ioved seeing cats on site for a few reasons, one of them being that cats are good at keeping rats away (in an eco-friendly manner). If they get rid of the cats (as they are threatening to do) that will not be good for the guests.
I stayed in one of the studio suites. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom was nicely remodeled. Otherwise, the room was dark and depressing. The only windows were those where you entered the room. Due to the room being situated across from the restaurant and bar, you needed to keep the ugly brown and tan curtains closed, effectively making the room even more dismal. Other than white walls and brown furniture, there is very little color in the decor. Even the art is dreary. Do not come here if you are prone to depression.
If you are highly sensitive, this is not the place for you. As this place is a former plantation, and apparently has not been spiritually or energetically cleaned, you may experience a heaviness of spirit while you are here. I felt it the entire time I was here, and then had very bad dreams for two nights after I left and was in a safer place where I could process it out.
There are pros and cons no matter where you go. You just need to figure out what is best for you, personally. For me, this was not a good place.
We ate at the restaurant and our server SHONTAI was so nice , very patient and kind ...I had a great time and food was GREAT
