An HONEST review.

An HONEST review of the Caribbean Village Hotel 🇲🇦

I’ll start by saying: take some of the negative reviews with a pinch of salt. I think the problem with a lot of reviewers is that they’ve booked a relatively cheap holiday and expected a 5⭐️ hotel. If that’s your mentality, then yes, you’re probably going to be disappointed.

The hotel is definitely a little run-down and outdated. The rooms aren’t the best, but they are completely habitable and cleaned every day. Some of the balcony views are absolutely beautiful.

If you’re booking a family room, be aware that the bunk beds are a little rickety. We ended up taking the top mattress off and putting it on the floor because we’re adults and didn’t trust it 🤣 For a small child, though, they would probably be absolutely fine.

There’s no lift access to the rooms, so if you have a disability or limited mobility, make sure you mention it when booking so you can be allocated an accessible floor.

🏊‍♀️ The pools

The pools are great. There are several to choose from and they were clean and well maintained during our stay. There are also plenty of water activities throughout the day to keep everyone entertained.

And keep an eye out for Cappuccino, the camel who lives on the resort! 🐪 If you give his owner a little tip, he’ll let you sit on him and take photos. He’s a lovely guy!

🛍️ The resort

The resort itself is HUGE and has loads of shops. Most are cash-only, but there’s one shop by the pharmacy that takes card payments. He also sells SIM cards and will register them for you.

DO NOT get a SIM card at the airport. We were told they’re a rip-off and that some are cut off after 24 hours.

There are also little panini and crêpe bars around the resort that take card payments, and there’s currency exchange available at reception.

One thing to be aware of is the hotel tax. When booking, it says £29, but it doesn’t make it particularly clear that this is per adult, so we got a bit of a shock when it came to paying!

🍕 The food

I’m going to be honest… I thought the food was sh!t😂

But food is completely subjective, and other people seemed perfectly happy with it. There is a little panini bar on the resort which is really cheap and honestly saved the week for me.

The all-inclusive drinks also come in TINY cups. 😂 However, if you buy one of the bigger cups from the souvenir shop, the bar staff are more than happy to fill it up for you. 😉

🐈 If you love cats…

You are absolutely going to LOVE this place! 😂

There are cats and kittens EVERYWHERE, and most of them are incredibly friendly.

BUT PLEASE sanitise your hands after touching them. Some of them are clearly quite poorly. I’m immunosuppressed and unfortunately learned this the hard way, so please be sensible if you’re vulnerable to infections.

💃 Entertainment

The staff are all extremely friendly and attentive, and the animation team are fantastic.

The entertainment, both during the day and at night, is honestly second to none. If you don’t like dancing, you’re in trouble because they WILL have you on your feet! 🤣

There are workers everywhere, constantly working to improve the grounds and the hotel. They work incredibly hard and, honestly, I think this place could be fantastic in a few years if they continue investing in it.

⚠️ Leaving the resort

Everything you could possibly need is pretty much available on the resort.

If you do decide to leave and head down towards the seafront, just be sensible and aware of your surroundings.

DO NOT accept things from strangers. People may be very friendly and offer you gifts, but just politely decline and keep walking. Don’t let yourself get pressured into anything.

❤️ Overall

All in all, we’ve had a really good little family holiday.

Is it a 5⭐️ luxury hotel? Absolutely not.

Is it a little dated? Yes.

Could the rooms be better? Definitely.

But if you go there expecting a budget-friendly holiday rather than the Ritz, don’t spend your entire holiday looking for faults, and actually appreciate what you’ve paid for, then I genuinely think you’ll have a great time.

We definitely will be returning. 🇲🇦❤️

Sometimes you really do get out of a holiday what you put into it. 😊

Run down but with so much potential

We booked a last minute cheap Holiday, my expectations were not to high given the cost and looking at reviews prior.

The rooms, well dirty, damp and smelly, beds were terrible, the pillowcase looked like it had never been washed. The Bunk beds were terrible, rickety and old. The bathrooms were terrible, water warm at best when we arrived there were only 3 small towels for 4 people. As we arrived late at night I spoke to the cleaner the following morning, she did get a fresh pillowcase and extra towels for us. However looking at the cleaning equipment these people are given, it no surprise the rooms are unclean! The terrace was lovely and big, however again dirty and looking very shabby, such a shame as it would have been a lovely area to sit and relax. No Air Con in rooms and no kettle or cups/glasses for drinks. The WiFi is very hit and miss even in the reception area.

The dining hall was terrible, long ques and no where near enough food for everyone, everything would go as soon as it was put out! Other customers taking plates and plates of food using their hands, not very hygienic!

There are stairs everywhere, making it difficult for people with mobility issues to move around, we were on the 3rd floor and no lifts, I would suggest if you do have mobility issues to email the hotel prior for a ground floor room.

The pool areas were generally a lot nice than the rooms, although could do with some TLC, the pool water turned our swimwear green. Considering it was August and a busy month for Holiday makers we never had any issue in finding sunbeds around one of the pools. At times things did get heated with parents and children falling out which I suppose is to be expected at any hotel, we did witness many an argument between parents around the pool.

The staff try their best with the equipment given. The entertainment staff are lovely and do try and include everyone in their activities, personally I didn't have an issue with the evening entertainment it was your standard all inclusive style. The bar however was crowded at times and unless you shout up or tip you could be waiting a while for a drink, they allow two drinks per person, they have a bar that serves alcohol and a bar that serves soft drinks. I did notice that those who did tip got served quicker and at times got table service, I suppose the staff rely on these tips to top up their pay. It was difficult at times to get seats for the entertainment as it got very busy, especially if you went down after 8pm.

There were some little shops on site, including a little supermarket for snacks and ice cream etc. The prices were extremely reasonable for on site shops. Some lovely places to eat outside of the hotel, and we noticed many people had food delivered from McDonalds etc.

Unfortunately I wouldn't return to this hotel, it has the potential of being a fantastic place as the staff really do try very hard to make it pleasant, It is in desperate need of updating! Its such a shame to see such a big complex so run down.

AVOID WITH YOUR LIFE

I have been lucky enough to travel extensively across the world in my lifetime, mostly travelling to a limited budget. I have never once come across a place as appalling as this. Within 20 minutes of arriving and my son jumping in the pool, he had cut his foot on something very sharp which we had to seek medical attention for. Reception weren't interested and sent us elsewhere to an office where there were no staff for half an hour. My elderly auntie had a fall from an unsafe ramp and injured her hand. We hadn't even been shown our rooms at this point. When we were shown to our first room, I pulled the blanket back and found dirty, used tissues on the sheet. I spoke to Reception and was clear but calm that I found it unacceptable that we were offered a dirty room. The Receptionist instructed me that I was to stop shouting at her. She immediately looked for another room for us (clearly used to this situation). On pulling back the sheets in the second room, my son found a black sticky substance on the bunk bed sheets which ended up on his hands. I couldn't bear to look any closer although I did turn the shower on and there was absolutely no hot water. In the meantime, my family members went to get some food at the buffet to find a huge, baking hot room, packed with salads and other food that were left open to the elements and more importantly, crawling with flies. It was not an option to eat here. By this point, we realised that my children's swimwear had turned green from whatever chemicals they were adding to the pool water; not something I've ever experienced before. On returning to Reception to explain that room 2 was also unclean, I was met with utter hostility and down right rudeness to the point that the male Receptionist literally turned his head away when I tried to speak to him. I asked for a manager but was told that they weren't working today. Whilst this was a budget holiday, it is absolutely reasonable to expect something that is at the very least clean and safe, neither of which are the case with this absolutely shocking excuse for a hotel. Whilst attempting to negotiate with the staff at Reception, we saw 2 other families desperately on the phone to loveholidays to try and get out of the place. We left the day we arrived as it was utterly unbearable and not somewhere I could be content that my 3 children and elderly auntie could be safe in. We saw the bad reviews before we arrived. We wanted to give the place the benefit of the doubt. We were only booked for 3 nights. We're not fussy people. Clean and safe was all we needed. But we couldn't even suffer a long weekend. Please please do not book here, it is truly horrendous.

Horrendous Experience – Unacceptable Cleanliness and Hygiene

Absolutely horrendous experience. There was blood on the sheets, cockroaches in the room, severe damp covering the ceiling, and no hot water for the entire five-day stay. The rooms smelled awful, and to make matters worse, there were flies landing on the food.

The overall cleanliness and hygiene standards were completely unacceptable. This was supposed to be an enjoyable family holiday, but instead we were left feeling extremely disappointed and uncomfortable throughout our stay.

Sadly, based on our experience, I would not recommend this hotel.

TripAdvisor Review
Don't go here.

Cockroaches on the wall in the room.

Cigarette smells in the room. In the restaurant, the guests take the food with their nasty hands on their plates. Not enough food, the sweets finished in the next ten minutes. THE POOL CLOSED AT 7PM.We had to leave the water and the sun was still visible and it was still hot. I couldn't explain it to the kids why they couldn't swim. There were also sharp edges on the sides of the pool and that is risky for pupils. Most of the food was cold, therefore we couldn't eat it that much. Wi-Fi is not working Avoid this hotel. I would not really recommend.
