Baobab Beach Resort and Spa

My wife and I travelled to Baobab Beach Resort & Spa for our honeymoon in October 2026, and I can honestly say this is the best holiday I have ever been on.

Arrival and check-in

On arrival, we were greeted by very friendly, smiling staff. There was a little confusion initially, as several guests were checking in at the same time. We were asked to sit down and enjoy a welcome drink, but it wasn't immediately clear what we were waiting for.

After around 10 minutes, a member of the guest relations team greeted everyone and explained that check-in was completed online, which we needed to do ourselves. She explained every step perfectly. Through no fault of her own, the process took a little longer than expected, as there were guests of several different nationalities who needed assistance. Compared with the rest of our stay, we felt that the check-in process could be made a little smoother in the future.

We were given our room number and informed that it wasn't quite ready, but we were welcome to relax and enjoy the facilities in the meantime.

Our first experience of the main bar was excellent. It was clean, well-stocked and staffed by friendly people. We relaxed until we were informed that our room was ready. A member of staff then kindly carried our suitcases and showed us around the resort on the way to our room.

Our room and honeymoon surprise

We stayed in room 2105 in the Maridadi Wing, and we couldn't have been happier with our room.

The hotel knew we were celebrating our honeymoon, so when we entered our room, we were pleasantly surprised by what had been prepared for us. I won't spoil the surprise for anyone planning a visit, but it was a fantastic touch and genuinely appreciated.

The room itself was beautiful, spacious, fully stocked and spotlessly clean. There was one bathroom with two mirrors and two sinks, as well as an enormous shower, around 10 feet long! The four-poster bed had an amazing mattress and pillows, and there was bottled water, a kettle and everything else we needed.

We were on the first floor, with a generously sized balcony. One of the lovely things about staying here is seeing the monkeys roaming around the resort grounds. They are a fantastic sight and, for the most part, seem quite happy to keep themselves to themselves. We were reminded to keep the balcony doors locked because of them, which was useful advice!

The pools and facilities

There are five swimming pools to choose from, including two adults-only pools with quieter areas and another with a swim-up bar. The pools were regularly maintained, and the water was a welcome, refreshing temperature in the Kenyan sunshine.

There was usually music around the bar, creating a lovely atmosphere, and towels were readily available to collect and return throughout the day.

There was always somewhere to relax, whether we wanted a livelier atmosphere or a quieter spot to unwind.

There were also two or three small shops on site where you could buy trinkets and souvenirs. The staff were welcoming, helpful and happy to assist.

For those who want to keep active or enjoy a little extra pampering, the resort also has a tennis court, gym, salon and massage facilities. These are available at an additional cost and can be booked during your stay.

The restaurants and food

There are three all-inclusive buffet-style restaurants, offering a fantastic variety of food and different dishes to choose from. The restaurants are a good size, everything we ate was well cooked, and the dishes were clearly labelled so you could see what was on offer.

Another great thing worth mentioning is that gluten-free and egg-free dishes are available, which is reassuring for guests with specific dietary requirements. I was also impressed to see that the resort caters for even its youngest guests, with puréed food available for infants. It's good to see that different dietary needs and ages are taken into consideration.

In addition to the three buffet restaurants, there are two speciality restaurants that can be booked for a more special dining experience. Both have fantastic menus and are well worth considering if you fancy something a little different during your stay.

Some tables also offer lovely ocean views, depending on availability.

We always enjoyed our dining experiences, and the chefs and waiting staff clearly take pride in what they do.

The staff – the real reason this resort is so special!...

The hotel management should be incredibly proud of the team they have. Every single member of staff we encountered was welcoming, warm, friendly and helpful.

They greet you with a smile, are attentive to your needs and, above all, work incredibly hard. You rarely see anyone standing around doing nothing; everyone seems to have a role to play in making sure guests have the best possible experience.

The housekeeping team keep everything spotless. The grounds team are constantly cutting the grass, trimming trees, carrying out repairs and maintaining the pools and gardens. The front-of-house staff work hard to make sure guests have everything they need.

The bar staff are funny, friendly and attentive. The waiting staff go out of their way to make your dining experience enjoyable, while the chefs are happy to help you choose dishes, explain anything you're unsure about and make sure you enjoy the food they have prepared.

The security team are friendly and approachable, helping you feel safe both within the resort and on the beach.

And then there's the Jambo team! The entertainment staff are incredibly talented, funny and welcoming. They take the time to explain the games and activities, making everyone feel included. The evening shows were outstanding, and you can genuinely see how much time, effort and talent go into putting on the performances each night.

There are two members of staff I'd particularly like to mention by name: Reuben, the bartender, and Valentine, the waitress. Both were consistently kind, welcoming and attentive throughout our stay, and their friendliness really helped make our experience that little bit more special.

I do apologise that I cannot remember everyone's names, as there were so many wonderful people who looked after us. Please don't take the fact that I haven't named everyone as a reflection of their efforts. Far from it! Every member of staff we encountered deserves recognition for the hard work they put in, and I wish I could remember every single name to thank them individually.

I could keep going, but the point is simple: every single member of staff contributes to making Baobab what it is!

To Reuben, Valentine and the entire Baobab team, from housekeeping and grounds maintenance to the chefs, bar staff, entertainment team, security and management: thank you. You all play a part in making this resort such a special place, and you deserve enormous credit for the work you do.

A few minor things worth mentioning

There were renovations taking place within the resort grounds, including around the theatre area. We had been made aware of this before our stay. Although the work was visible when entering the car park, that was the only time it really came to our attention. During our 10-day stay, we were never disturbed by the work being carried out, which is a credit to how well it was managed.

Occasionally, we experienced brief power cuts across the resort, but the power would return within seconds. The Wi-Fi also occasionally stopped working and again wouldn't take long to resart. However, when you're staying on the beach, surrounded by a baobab forest, what more can you expect?! And it really didn't effect our stay in the slightest!

Would we return? Absolutely!

During our stay, we met several couples from different countries who told us they had visited Baobab more than 10 times. When you hear that from so many returning guests, it really speaks for itself.

All in all, Baobab Beach Resort & Spa is by far the most beautiful and well-run place I have ever stayed. From the rooms and facilities to the food, entertainment, stunning surroundings and, above all, the incredible staff, everything came together to give us a honeymoon we will never forget.

Yes, there are a few minor things that could be improved, but they are insignificant when you consider the overall experience.

We would return without hesitation, and I would recommend this resort to anyone looking for a truly memorable holiday in Kenya.

I have just returned from a week's stay at this amazing Hotel. Myself and my partner did a weeks Safari and then had a week to relax here before heading home. The Hotel is set in beautiful gardens overlooking Diani Beach. We had a sea view room overlooking the gardens out to sea. The room was clean, modern and very spacious.
The hotel grounds are beautifully kept and the groundsman do an amazing job. But the thing that makes this Hotel stand out are the staff. Every single one in every area of the Hotel were so welcoming and nothing was ever too much trouble. We ate most days at the Karibu Restaurant. Soloman and Robinson were always there with a smile and a friendly chat. But Rabecca (Trainee) was just a joy to see everyday. Such a warm and lovely person. Always with a brillaint smile on her face. She is a credit to the Hotel. Also Juma one of the guys that carry your bags for you. He remembered us from day one and always had a chat with us when he saw us. Thank you for your time and hard work. The beach is amazing and you can take long walks up and back again. The Beach Sellers are always wanting to sell you things and follow you for a while. But a quick chat and a polite "No thank you" is all that's required. We actually really enjoyed talking to them all. To the left of the Hotel on the Beach, accessed from the quiet pool side are a few clothes sellers. Please visit Annie as she is such a joy to talk too. We purchased a few items from her. All hand made and made to measure. Definitely worth a visit if you want something personal from your visit to Kenya. The Jambo Team put on such a great evening show everyday. The energy they put into each performance is unbelievable. I felt out of breath just watching them. Probably the best entertainment team I've ever seen anywhere we have travelled in the last 20 years. They really are that good! Don't miss them. Oh, and the Monkeys in the hotel grounds are so mischievous they are just so much fun to watch. We had a fantastic break here and its a perfect place to recharge after a busy week on Safari. Highly recommended. Thank you for a great stay!
