shout outs go to: Mahmood in the restaurant always greeted us with a smile and a handshake. Yaha who served us at Breakfast and Dinner was attentive to all our needs. All the staff at the Nineteen bar/restaurant gave us excellent service. Ivy at the Mivida Spa gave me three excellent massages and always with a smile. Samir and all his colleagues gave us excellent and friendly service at the Bogey Bar. Reception were polite and always with a smile.

If you want a peaceful relaxing holiday the Steigenberger is a good choice. If you love your golf the hotel sits in the middle of a good golf course with great views across the area from it's elevated position.

We wanted a quiet hotel with not a lot of activity to disturb us. We couldn’t pick better! No blaring music round the pool. Low key nighttime entertainment. Adults only. Small hotel <100 rooms. We just wanted to relax, read, swim and maybe go for the odd walk. The hotel was very friendly, clean, welcoming. The rooms - we were in the ones around the pool / sunbathing area. They were comfortable and well equipped. One thing in short supply was plug sockets to charge our devices. We had to unplug lamps etc. Good power shower in bathroom. Towels changed daily as needed. Robes and slippers supplied. There is a minibar in the room but the contents other than water are not free. Similarly a snack tray with nuts etc and the coffee pods for the nespresso are chargeable. Not what you would expect in a 5* hotel. The pool - plenty of sunbathing area with and without shade ( mostly with) and we always had sun beds available. No 5am reserving them. In fact I was aware of one family that did start reserving them and they were asked not to. The pool was big and not too deep (no diving) but cold when you first got in. It was very clean. There’s a gym & sauna etc if you want. There was a pool bar where lunch was served. Also snacks in the afternoon. You’ll never be hungry! The staff prefer you to throw in a cover up or shirt when at the bar. Plus no smoking at the bar. The staff serve drinks at your sun bed and work very hard. Main restaurant - breakfast and dinner. Serve from quite early which can be very useful. The food was of very good quality and variety. It was in small dishes and topped up frequently. The chefs were always about and took obvious pride in their kitchen. I heard that a few people had slightly upset tummies but you would expect that in a country with very different food etc. I didn’t hear of anyone having severe upset while we were there. Of course a hotel is only as clean as its dirtiest staff or guest! The staff seemed to have very clean practices. Wine - well the local Egyptian wine wasn’t very good, but the imported wine was very expensive. We usually drink red but room temp was just too warm so we shifted to rosé. Entertainment - round the pool there’s daily stretching and aquarobics then boules in the afternoon. There’s evening entertainment in the main hotel but to be honest we didn’t bother with it. Beach - the hotel is a fair way from the beach and the route is along a road mostly with no footpath or pavement. The hotel runs an hourly bus shuttle there and back plus if you want to go anywhere in between they have some golf buggies and will drive you there. We went to the beach but found that the Steigenberger area was shared with another much bigger hotel. There was no sun beds available if you didn’t get there early. The sand is quite coarse, I’d recommend beach shoes. We didn’t go in the sea but heard that snorkelling is amazing. We were happier with the hotel & pool. The biggest strength of this hotel is the staff and the commitment to the level of service they provide. They genuinely care about their guests and their comfort. They give excellent service without asking for tips but all tips thankfully received. I couldn’t single out any particular member of staff as they were all fantastic. A couple of suggestions for improvement other than those mentioned above - the main bar in the hotel is non AC during the day and too hot to enjoy a drink there. Designate a no smoking area in the sunbathing area. Tell the lady who asks about massages & beauty treatments to be less persistant. No thank you means No! I’ve never returned to a hotel but have already been looking at prices for next year. There’s a lot of people who return again and again. Spoke to one lady who has been there more than 30 times. Another great stay at Steigenberger, Makadi. This is our third trip and it’s great to see the same lovely staff year after year. The food was already great but has got even better. A great selection of fruits and vegetables compared to most buffets. Freshly squeezed juices and eggs cooked to your liking for breakfast. Lovely selection of lunch options at poolside bar and varied options for dinner, including a freshly grilled meats and fish. Housekeeping are brilliant and the room was spotless. The hotel was also great at helping with an injury and arranging a doctor to visit . An added bonus, a small laundry wash was included. Poolside staff delivered drinks, snacks and cleaned your sunglasses everyday. Pure relaxation and apparently the golf so good too. An improved gym with more modern equipment would make it perfect.
